Not at all an expert on this, but my question is - is there a reason you don't trust your vet's recommendations? I mean, sometimes we do have well-founded concerns and in that case it might be worth getting a second opinion.

On the other hand, a quick google search suggests that birds who are sick with this (as opposed to being an asymptomatic carrier) can progress and die relatively quickly. And, yes, sometimes medication can make them feel worse than they did before, but if it can save the bird from getting sicker or dying that seems like it would be a worthwhile tradeoff.

If it were me, I'd talk to the vet about any concerns and whether your other bird needs treatment.

It's the nature of antibiotics. I'm sure you've had them before and understand how bad it can make you feel. In effect it's infecting with a bacteria the body can deal with to kill off a bacteria it can't. As The_Mayor said megabacteria can easily kill if not dealt with promptly.
Be sure to discuss probiotics when you go back to the vet. It's one of the best things we can do for the health of our birds, especially after antibiotics (can help prevent reinfection).

Best straight after the antibiotics are finished as it contains the friendly gut bacteria, which the antibiotics will kill off. Benebac is one of the better ones so should be good.

You can always get a second opinion. One of the best avian vets in the US is Brian Spear practicing in California. You can get his email from his office and give him all the details plus your vets name. I did this with a budgie that had AGY. Got a response back in 2 days.

Most likely they’re not going to react to the medication. They just tell you as a precaution. It’s a rough treatment, but then it’s a mean disease.

Did they give you enough to treat both? If so I would definitely treat both. I always treat both if they’re caged together.

The budgie I had was on Ampho for 3 months for end stage AGY. If he had side effects I did not see any. He was in the wasting stage where they lose weight despite eating well as the nutrients are no longer absorbed. He looked awful, feathers not groomed any more. It was hard to watch so the decision was made to end the misery.

They didn’t. Give me enough to treat both birds but I’m goin fb to treat both and. I will get more meds , the other bird is not. Caged with this bird. But the cages are next to each other and they have outside. Time together, the other bird tho doesn’t have poop issues like the one presented. With mega back, should I still treat?
the bird with it has been have very small unformed poops like straight not round is that part of it?

And not use any of the many things I panicked ordered. I think I might give them some bene bak probiotics and milk thistle tho?
vet said it’s possible the things saw on the slide were environmental contaminants....meh

If you have a good enough vet AGY can be seen in a fecal exam.
Glad your test was negative and that it not a illness I would treat unless 100% certain they have it.
Amp B is very toxic. Even the directions state your should wear gloves while handling it. Many birds can't tolerate the meds and end up vomiting it back out. Since Amp B is the only medication that treats AGY you have to have more medications prescribed to help your bird keep down the medication. Often Amp B has to be given for many months as AGY is difficult to kill.

I like the aviculture when it comes to probiotics. My late vet aided in it's development.

That’s the thing about vets you can go to the best. Avian place yet still get a Bad vet or so ome one that just. Makes a mistake I guess... we did the gram stain and thought she Saw it which is why I was directed To start meds while waiting results from pcr I guess I felt the same way that’s why I was Only giving the meds once a Day and half the dose .
I asked if there was Any thing elese prescribed with it That. I can give to make it easier to the bird and. They said no, which is why I ordered a lot of stuff onlinee
The gram stain was chalked Up to possible Environmental contamination Honestly every time I go to a Young doctor I have a bad experience, for now it’s only old avian boarded docs.
