Gingus, aka Gussie, is my 16 month old cinnamon green cheeked conure. My avian vet recommended I consider a GCC when I was in a puddle of tears at the vet, visiting my ailing lovebird. (It was looking like the lovie wouldn't be coming home...but she did, to live another 16 months The vet said GCCs are funny & loving & lived longer than lovebirds. I did some research & even went to meet a couple of GCCs, but decided to stick with lovebirds. Until I walked into the pet store, just for bird food, and met Gussie. She was 14 1/2 weeks old. She looked me in the eye, and told me to bring her home. Almost literally. She turned in a circle, begged for food, ran up my arm, said "Pretty bird", turned a couple of more circles, then put her beak in my ear and softly said, "Baby". At that point I said, "Where do I pay"
I named her for my brother, since he had helped with my lovie's considerable vet bill. Gingus is the made-up name my brother used as a child when he & my cousin were in their "What kind of mischief can we get into now" mode. It seemed like an appropriate name for a GCC. (the cousin was Dooby) It turned out to be a wise choice of names as well. Big brother came through yet again & paid for Gussie's cage & first vet exam! Gussie loooooooves her bath, and she's a great little eater, too. And she makes me smile every day!
