I'm pleased to announce Dianne (Annamacaw) as March's "Mayor of the Avenue"
I enjoyed getting to know you and your birds a little better Dianne - congratulations!
1.What kind of birds do you have (age, species and names)?
I have 4 Macaws:
Anna B&G 6 years old
Kita (AKA Keety-Bug) B&G 10 years old
Capri GW around 22 years old
Quito (Pronounced “Kee-toe”) Hy around 22 years old
2. What got you interested in birds?
It was completely accidental!!!!
A coworker was trying to sell Anna and I just wanted to see her since I had never seen a Macaw up close in person before… I fell in love with her instantly, screaming, biting, lunging and all!!
I paid the ransom and picked Anna up 2 days later…
My life was forever changed!
3. What have your birds brought to your life?
Lots of noise and work!!! ….
No…. seriously….Lots of Love, Laughter, Happiness, Peace and Patience.
They have made me a better person….They have caused me to step back and look at life so differently! I don’t sweat the small stuff like I used to!
4. What have you learned from sharing your life with your birds?
They have taught me that things are just not that serious!!
5. What's one birdie memory that will stay with you forever?
There are so many, but… the ONE that is definitely etched in my mind is the day that I met Anna and that look in her eyes… she touched my soul!
6. Where is your birds main living area?
They have their own private “apartment” where they can be as loud and messy as they want to be and they have their own free chef and maid service!!!!!!!!
7. Did you change things in your home to accommodate your birds and if so what kinds of things did you change?
Anna lived in our dining room for about 2 years, I was always worried about safety issues, and I threw away everything Teflon and bought all SS…
I was stressed all the time about potential dangers for her….so we decided to build a birdhouse for her… We designed it to be as bird-safe as possible…. Then 3 more birdies came along…..
A wonderful thing about them having their own house is that when I am out there with them, it is just all about them, no household chores or other things going on! Just pure quality birdie time!!!!
It is my little Oasis too!
8. Are you involved in any kind of bird related group or activities?
I do some activities for Phoenix Landing. We adopted Kita through PL!!!!!
9. What is the one luxury item you would love to have for your bird(s)?
An outside Aviary that is completely safe for them!
10. Is there any bird that you dream of owning and if so why?
Nope, but I could not dream of not having my birds that I have now!
11. Describe a typical day with you at home with your birds.
Oh gosh….. there are so many little details, but here’s the important stuff:
We start and end every day with a ton of “good mornings, Hi’s Hello’s, gimme kisses and I love you’s”.
12. What have you learned about owning birds that you would like to share?
They are awesome creatures…. So smart, perceptive and loving. They do require a great deal of care and a huge commitment (of time, energy and money)…. But it is so worth it!
13. If you knew then what you know now about birds, what would you do differently?
So many things… it has been a process, I started out knowing nothing and I learn so much more everyday! I am happy to say that am constantly trying to do better and I think I am improving the care I provide for them!
14. What other hobbies do you have?
Before birds I was a glass and jewelry artist…..
I hope to pick it back up sometime, but for now I am loving the time I spend with my birds! I don’t want to do anything else!
Hmmmmm…may never pick it back up!
15. Anything else you would like to share?
I feel so fortunate to be a part of the AA family. I have learned so much about how to take the best care of my birds… to deal with problems and enrich their lives!
AA brought me to some wonderful and awesome people who I know I will share a special friendship with for a lifetime!
