M2 smashing face into cage

Hi, temporarily fostering an M2 who is 32. Lived with same family for years until the wife died (primary caretaker). Being an M2, family found him to be a challenge and sounds like they didn’t interact much with him. He was fostered for a few months with someone and is now here. He’s been here for a few days but today I was sitting with him and he tore some paper and then started violently bouncing his beak off the bottom of the cage. I’m wondering if this is hormonal (seems a bit extreme for beak tapping) or he’s excited for the attention.

It could be either. I know you are a temporary foster but that cage looks pretty small for an M2. He really should be in at least an 80x40. I would really encourage whoever gets him to get a larger cage. They're big birds and need lots of space and also a big cage allows for more toys and it's important to keep those clever minds busy. Thank you for helping him.

Thanks for your feedback. I don’t disagree with you about his cage size, it looks small with him in there. From what I understand, this has been his cage for quite a few years now. He’s going to a sanctuary where it sounds like he be in a flock of moluccans with an outdoor aviary.

I think he might be hormonal and being territorial with his cage, especially when he’s on the bottom. When he’s higher, he will come to the edge for skritches but on the bottom he goes after me. He also has been spinning like a clock sometimes. I have been walking away when he does those behaviors.
