Hi All,

I am new to this group so, hopefully, someone may be able to point me in the right direction. I have experience growing up with an Umbrella but am interested in a Hahn's Macaw. I am in central Virginja and am finding no one except bird pet stores where the prices are sky high and which I am leery of.

Does anyone know of a good reputable private breeder of the Hahn's?

Thank you all in advance.

I think a breeder will likely charge close to what a pet store does. Bird prices have gone up a lot. Have you thought about checking any bird rescues near you? A lot of rescues list on petfinder.com.

I got my Hahns at avalon aviary in Colorado Avalon Aviary Bird Store
The price will be high, but they have a good reputation.
I don't see that they have any available right now

Prices from a reputable breeder are rarely ever cheaper than from a pet store. In recent years, it's pretty much impossible to find a responsibly bred, well cared for and tamed mini macaw for under $4k, so don't be shocked if whatever breeder you choose has a hefty price tag. As MommyBird said, Avalon has them sometimes. Dallas Parrots in Flower Mound TX breeds them as well.
When buying a bird from a reputable breeder, the price is higher because you are paying for the hand feeding, the DNA tests, the checkups, the equipment, and the expertise that goes into getting that bird ready for its forever home, which is both a lot of time and money for the breeders. I don't know of anyone in Virginia that breeds them so you may have to look into out of state breeders and consider either driving to pick up your bird or having it shipped.

Beware of online-only breeders. Not all of them are bad, but there are a lot of scammers and sick birds that come from situations like that.
