Some of the Locomotives seen on Saturday. I don't know what all of them are.

The 2-8-2 that headed up the train.

The F40FH That followed. These normally pull the trains, except for the first Saturday of each month and certain holidays. It is an F40PH that has modified gearing.

A three-truck shay on display at the Williams depot...

An interesting little locomotive made to run up and down Pikes Peak

On display at the Grand Canyon depot

Passed this one on the way into the Williams depot

The theory is those are all going to be restored for the Museum that is supposed to open next year?

The car we rode in for the trip.

Amazing. The Manitou/Pikes Peak one is very interesting.

It's a 0-4-2T, the T means a tank engine, as it carries no tender full of fuel and water. It is a cog locomotive. That means that in additon to the two normal rails for the wheels, there is a center rail with teeth, and a geared wheel on the locomotive engages the teeth to ensure traction. They are used on steep inclines.

That's also why the cab is tilted. So the engineer is on a flat floor as the train goes up the hill.

Love trains. As a child I spent many hours and days on trains. Slept in pullman cars and ate in elegant dining cars. My mom and I could ride for no cost as my dad worked for B&O railroad.
