Strolling the yard
Hi all,
I share my home with two caiques, Icarus (a white-bellied boy) and Daedalus (a black-headed girl). They're both about 4.5 years old, and have been with me since they were about 1 year old.
I'm a big believer in the power of clicker training, which has helped me develop a happy relationship of mutual trust with my birds. You can see some of my videos in the clicker training sticky thread in the training forum.
Both of my birds are flighted, and I can't imagine having it any other way. It's been so good for their physical and mental health, and it gives them the power to make their own choices and gives them control over their environment. Plus, is there anything as awesome as having your bird fly to your shoulder just because he wants to hang out with you?
I'm a huge fan of foraging. My birds forage for most of their food, and have become really excellent foragers (especially Daedalus, who loves to figure out puzzles).
My little feather-devils are great travelers. They ride happily with me in the car and on my bike, and they come with me to work (occasionally), to the farmer's market, to parades and fairs. They wear Aviator harnesses when we're outdoors. They are great little avian ambassadors, stepping up for everyone and showing off their many tricks.
I look forward to many more years of sharing my life with my birds!
