Jasper's arthritis, in her left foot and ankle, has been getting progressively more painful, so I called the Dr. to ask if I could up her Metacam dosage or maybe use capasian to help her. He said not to use capsian, but to use DMSO, so I am. He also said that if I weren't traveling in my RV he would recommend that I bring her in for Laser Light Therapy - new to me, so I started reseaching on the Inet and found a lot of information.

Many animal clinics are now using this therapy on animals including birds. Here is just one site I found, but there are many, many more.

I had this done for Parking Lot Kitty when I took her in for her spay. The doctor said it would reduce her healing time. Seemed to work well :)

Glad to hear that someone has already had experience with laser therapy and positive experience at that.

Of course, it's not approved for human treatment in the US, although they have been using it in other countries for up to 30 years. If my knees and shoulder get much worse, I think I will look into going to Mexico for getting the treatment for me. If I can't get around I can't take care of H&J.

I wonder why it hasn't been approved for human use?

It seems that our FDA gets analysis/testing paralysis quite often. There are many drugs and therapy methods that have been used in other countries for years without detrimental effects that we can't have in the US. One that I remember is Bextra. My aunt had horrible arthritis and all of the NSAIDS other than Bextra would make her stomach bleed - but the US took it off the market. She asked if she could sign a release for liability and still take it, but no. She was 85 years old and died in misery. I guess Big Brother doesn't think we are smart enough to take care of ourselves.

That so sad and so silly!!! ALL medications have side affects, some side affects are not noticeable to many and some side affects are so severe. And mix that with all the types medications you can take. You get side affects and health risks, yet the FDA doesn't take off every medication from the market. I do think that its horrible to of taken the Bextra off the market like that. So sad.:( And I hope they further test it to improve it. All medication have the potential to cause a stroke and heart attack (reasons why Bextra was taken off the market). I also think all medications in pill form should also be made into gel-cap form. I have bad side affects on the dry pill forma, but the gel ones, like gel ibuprofen, I can take with no side affects at all. The pilled form I get very sick, feverish and throw up. Same with any other pilled pain killer.
