Hi everyone, I am a very new owner of two GCC, 1M and 1F. I have them 10 days Samy and Sue. It took me a while to open the cage door but did it before. It's still opened and just the female flew out and back in without landing and the male is a bit more uncomfortable so he stayed in. They don't play with toys, for now so I put the biggest on the floor of the cage. Not sure if I did the right thing so please let me know if I should have left it hanging. Well wanted to say hello and all the help you can all offer, I will be most obliged. Oh by the way, they are very much bonded, they came as a bonded couple.

My conures rarely go on the floor. If they drop a food item on the floor and they cant reach it from hanging off the side of the cage, they wont bother retrieving it.

Welcome to Avian Avenue Michael!

As well as the above mentioned, toys on the floor also get pooped on. Best to keep it hung up. If your birds are wary of it, put it in a corner. If they are scared of it, lay it down outside the cage closeby in view for a while before putting it in the cage.

:hello: And welcome

do you have a perch on the cage door that swings out when doors open or a perch just below door open I’ve found it’s easier for them to gain confidence by slowly coming out instead of having to fly out into unknown

Not the best picture just making tea will go get one for you but rope perch is on outside and red perch above swing out

they all jump onto rope perch first when coming out it’s also a good place to give treats and let them get comfortable with you

I do have a purch on the door but it's up high on the door, I can lower it or just add another one to the bottom of the door. I just added a purch to the inside of the door and when the door swings open its horizontal to the cage perfect for them to step up on.

Hello and welcome! It took mine a good few days to be able to feel confident enough to come out. And it came in stages, where he would come out, and just sit in the door of the cage, and then come out and sit on the perch, and then come out and sit on the roof of the cage.

That's exactly what my female is doing but the male has yet to leave the cage at all

Both my birds are leaving the cage but they seem not to have a place to land so they fly back into the cage or on top of it. I do have a large perch standing but I think I'm going to hang a few things from the ceiling.
