Is there a way to turn off the snow effect?

Unfortunately, due to a medical condition I can't browse the forums when the snow effect is enabled. Is there a way to turn it off? I looked in my "Preferences" and there wasn't anything there.
Thanks!

I solved the issue for myself (Yay me!).

If you need to get rid of the snow and can figure out how to add a custom filter to your Ad blocker or browser, below is the link that needs to be blocked.

//cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Snowstorm/20131208/snowstorm-min.js

I use Ad Blocker Plus under Chrome and was able to do it by opening Ad Blocker from the icon next to the address bar. Click the settings "gear" in the upper right corner. Navigate to Settings -> Advanced -> Custom Filters -> My Filter List. Then add the link above as a new filter. Make sure the blue switch is slid to the right to enable the filter. Exit the browser and start up again. Make sure that Ad Blocker is enabled for the AA web site. Poof! No snow.

Unfortunately, ads are disabled too. I believe that ads should be enabled for forums like this so that vendors are supported. I'm sure there is a way to only block the snowstorm java script without blocking the ads but I've run out of time to look into it. If anyone is interested more info, please post to this thread.

The link posted above also works in the NoScript plugin for Firefox (android). Ads and everything else still work just fine.

What would be the steps to do so on an old macbook? It's overheating my computer. I don't have an ad blocker. Thank you very much!

I presume that you're using the Safari web browser on your MacBook. The only option that I am know of (there may be several) is to install Ad Blocker Plus and follow the instructions I gave above. I'm more of a PC/Linux person, so I don't feel comfortable walking you through the details on a Mac.

[Edit] I did a little bit of searching, and I found something called a feature called "Content blocking" in Safari that may work without having to install a plugin like Ad Blocker Plus. Again, I can't really help with the details. Hopefully "Mac knower" will chime in.

Thank you, JornsBergenson, I'm using Chrome. Neither safari nor chrome will update as my computer is that old, but AA only opens on chrome. Any suggestions for macbooks + chrome? :)

Gosh, if your computer can't take updates, I'd be afraid to try to change too much. You certainly don't want to break your browser altogether. The only way I know to block the snowstorm java script from running is to install a blocker plugin like Ad Blocker Plus or NoScript that Ripshod mentioned.

Maybe the admins can find a way to add a preference option to disable the snow.
