I have never heard of a blue-lored? Was this an Avian Vet or regular vet? If it turns out to be a BFA and your A.V. himself/herself said it is a blue-lored (not an assistant), I would then choose another A.V.
I second this ^^ I knew someone whose vet actually MADE UP names for his two Zons! I don't remember exactly what he said, but I know it was a DYH and a YN and this vet had told this guy they were like "White Tipped Parrots" or something!

Turns out the vet was not an Avian Vet, he only thought he was qualified to work on birds!

Sad, so sad. I have worked in the veterinary industry over 20 years. The number of veterinarians that will "treat" a species they know little about is astounding. Research your vet my dear neighbors, before you need one.

Vets learn about all animals in college, so are able to give general care. They then specialise from their basic qualification.

BFA's are quite big, especially in comparison to an orange wing. I have never heard of a BFA described as tiny. Mine is a pretty good sized guy.
Not true for all the subspecies of BFA. You can find subspecies of smaller BFA's that are as small as a OWA, and even smaller.

I have Poe an 8 yr. old female BFA (nominate species) She is much smaller than an OWA and to me she's a decent sized zon. Smaller than a YNA but bigger than a Lilac

And what we often figure as typicaly size for an amazon, there are both large and small OWA. I have seen some very small ones, and vig ones as well. Same with WFA too. I have seen TINY TINY ones and ones that are the size of a typical RLA

I would love to see a picture of a BFA that is the same size as an OWA. I have never, ever, seen this.

You can email any parrot rescue, and they may have one. I unfortunately have none.

Up here in WA I know quite a few breeders, through a former friend of mine, who bred the smaller subspecies of BFA. I was VERY surprised to find the size difference between this smaller species of BFA and a Wild Caught larger sub species BFA that came in. WOW.

The small species of BFA that I have seen weight 350grams, at the most.

The wild caught one I saw weighrd more than 700grams!

The smaller ones, so I have heard, are a lot less common than the larger subspecies, but Im sure if you asked around, you will be able to get some good pics :)
