Is it true that if you introduce interesting sounds or whistles to a talking candidate, it makes it harder for them to talk, and they may opt to stop talking in favor of sounds?

I've two that mostly ignore all whistle and sounds I make, they only talk.

I've another that does the sounds and whistle, and hardly talks.

I guess you need to ask your bird. ;)

I think that's more true of species that are naturally more inclined to whistle, like cockatiels. Whistling comes naturally to them, much more so than talking.
Linnies aren't really whistlers, but they aren't big talkers, either. Mine says 'look' and 'gimmie a kiss' following by kissing sounds - but not very clearly.
