Introducing.....

I wanted to introduce my new baby. This is Relic. I wanted a baby dove but I wanted one that had been handled and so I allowed my two ringnecks Harmony and Freebird to raise a clutch. Sadly, the other baby didn't survive, but Relic is doing great. He is now 5 1/2 weeks old. Here are a couple of pics. One is when he was really little just getting his feathering. The other is of him hanging out in my room watching tv with me I adore this baby. He is doing great.

Thank you I adore him. Doves are GREAT! I just love them. This little guy is doing great. I hold him every day. I have been experimenting with toys. I put timothy hay in a little wire cage and he is pulling it out. I also made him some toys with those shreddy paper finger traps and shredded paper inside and I can see that he is pulling it out! Yay!

He's so handsome

I love my dove, Lady. She is so sweet and gentle. I need to keep her clipped because she flies to the highest point she can. In my house, that is REALLY high...cannot reach her without an extension ladder. She is SO good for her trims. I hold her with one hand and she holds out her wing for me to trim!!!! Then, I turn her around and she holds out the other wing. SUCH a good girl!

I let Relic fly in my room. Thankfully my ceilings are not too high so if he flies up I can get him.

I think that they are awesome pets. I have had doves for years. They make the most relaxing calming sound. They are easy to handle and easy to tame (easier if you start when they are young). My other two came to me as adults and I really wanted one to start working with early. There are always a lot of doves needing homes but many of them are born and raised in aviaries and not handled as a youngster which is why I decided to breed my own.
