Rhubarb, Husband and I would like to introduce the newest member of our family flock...
Limone the D2!
His name is Italian for "Lemon" and is a nod to the lovely bright yellow hiding under his wings.
He's tested positive for ABV in the past. We discussed long and hard the ramifications of a second ABV+ birdy. In the end we decided that we have the resources, a good vet and experience with complex and prolonged medical treatment should he ever fall ill. During the 57-day quarantine at our house, Rhubarb knew something was up. She was moved to a different room for sleep and once Limone got bold enough to start calling, she spent quite a bit of time at the corner of her cage nearest the quarantine room, looking and listening and chirping.
In the end, Rhubarb broke quarantine when she flew down the hall and darted into the room just as husband opened the door.
Much crests! So screaming! All cockatoo flapping!
In the end, there was a truce, with me sitting cross-legged on the floor a bird on each knee, warily eyeing one another and eating their own treats from my well-separated hands. Husband provided comforting scritches as needed.
Rhubarb is intrigued by her new (talkative!) housemate. Limone is jealous every time she gets attention when he's in his cage. We were prepared for her jealousy but she doesn't seem to mind as long as she gets some attention too. Good thing there's two of us to handle the birds!
This is getting quite long winded so without further ado, here's the promised pictures:
Just after his first bath time:
Enjoying his favorite toy on top of his cage:
Telling me how much he loves his fork... And would really prefer that I not touch it (or else):
