Hi everyone :hug8:

I'm sorry I don't know if this is the right place to post this and I'm not sure if I am allowed to cross post from another forum but a dear friend of mine has found an injured sparrow that has fallen 30ft. There is no way to get the sparrow back to the nest and my lovely friend has called the closest avian vet (she lives in a small village/town) and they just told her to "let nature have its course" (ie abandon it). She has tried feeding it egg food but it won't open its beak and does not beg like parrots do to be fed. I forgot to mention that she is a budgie breeder so lots of experience with feeding chicks!

Any help would be greatly appreciated please! The lastest advice we received was to feed it mealworm crushed with cat food. She is going to another town tomorrow to hopes of getting to another avian vet but so far the chick has only eaten barely 1ml of the egg food.

Also regarding injuries...have photos and videos but again I do not know about the rules of cross post. if you could help and take a look at injury please PM me?

Thank you very much for any help. This little one is adorable and I hope he makes it :(

Mashed up meal worms and egg yolk is also good. It needs to be sort of runny/gooey and room temp. I fed it off my finger. Do you have a nature center or conservancy who would be able to do rehab? We have one here in Naples. That would be the best place for the little one.

I do think a rehab is the best place and crushed up worms with egg are best..if you do not have that, then try some baby food or pablum mixed like gruel with water..keep him warm

How old is this baby determines what care should be given.

We tried nursing back a brown-headed cow bird that was kicked out of the nest when the host bird realized it wasn't one of their own. He stayed with us for three weeks and then I am not sure if it was something I did (I maybe didn't clean the water dish often enough, or maybe it was the worm we fed him at last meal) and he suddenly got weak and died in my husband's hands. We had been feeding him reconstituted powdered baby bird formula and started adding berries and at last meal that worm....plus water. His name was Mr Chirpy. He was happy when he was with us, but for all we knew, there was something wrong with him anyway from the fall. It was very sad. We kept him in a room since we didn't have a cage (or any birds at that time) and made a nest for him in a bowl to keep him warm (may have put heated blanket nearby)...he seemed happy enough. We know a LOT more about birds now but I still worry that I killed him with a contaminated worm.
It was horrible because that SAME nest on our roof was taken over again with cow birds and this year (two years later) and the host (Finch?) bird kicked out three birds in one day and I found them all in my driveway when it was too late.....my husband couldn't bear to look at them because he missed his Mr Chirpy. I gave them a nice burial though.
