Meeting neighbors
My sweet angel Loki the Budgie sadly passed away on Sunday night. He became very sick very suddenly, so suddenly that there were no real signs noticed until that same day, when, of course, it was to late
Due to the fact that it was the weekend, no vets were open. We couldn't get in to an Avian Vet until the next day (Monday), and the emergency vets didn't have their avian specialists in that day so were not able to treat him. We even enquired into non emergency/avian vets to see if we could get him any emergency care, but those we called up couldn't take him or refused to take him, even to give him fluids, because they had no avian policies due to the delicacy of birds (especially with things like Budgies that are just so tiny and need to be treated so carefully). All we could do for him in a feeble attempt to get him through to Monday was give him immune boosters and a general antibiotic. I am so proud of my little Loki, as he fought back until the very last moment, he even managed to bite me while we were giving him medicine, but sadly, he had worn himself out. My sweet angel needed to rest. He passed away at night, just before everyone else in the house had to go to bed. He had a hand stroking him gently right until his very last breath, and I hope that gave him some form of comfort in his final moments.
He died to soon. He was such a beautiful little bird full of all the personality in the world.
I don't have many recent photos of Loki, as I didn't take many photos over his short life, which I really do regret, as I would have loved to have more to keep around. But I have collected a few pictures of him from back when he was young (he even still has his baby head stripes in these, sweet little baby) to share along with this little goodby message to him.
I also still have one of his tail feathers that he dropped in one of his final moults before he died. I don't yet know what I'm going to do with this feather, but I'd like to find a way to make it into some type of jewelry or charm so that I can keep a bit of him close with me (if anyone has any ideas on how I would be able to do that, please share, I'd really appreciate it).
We buried him in the front garden and plan to plant a native tree of some kind that is popular with the local Lorikeets and other wild parrots.
Goodby Loki
