Pictures I saved a grub!

My dad said he saw this boy yesterday- just hanging out, doing grubby things. He was still there today, when I let the dog out. Roxie somehow managed to not notice him (she's a serial bug-eater). It's raining cats and dogs out there, and he was in a little divet where a puddle was quickly forming. He was trying to wriggle out of there, so I swooped in, scooped him up with a glass jar and moved him to under the hydrangea, where he will hopefully stand a chance to get big and strong!

yes some are bad some don't cause problems.

Do grubs turn into anything or is that just what they look like?

They are the baby form of beetles Of course, what kind of beetle they become depends on what type of grub they are.

i thought grubs were bad...

Only if there are too many. At our old house they were everywhere, they ruined the grass. But as long as there aren't too many, it's fine

Today was a good day for critter spotting! I lifted a brick and saw this cutie! I'm not sure what species it is, I would say narceus americanus but he's mighty small, too small to be one unless he's a baby. I put him back under his brick after snapping some pictures

Only if your face and hair are in their way! Like I tell my sister when she's fussing about bugs outside, "the bugs were here first."

I like June bugs. Used to play with them when I was a kid, before I grew up & became all stuffy. I still flip them over if I see them stuck on their backs, though.

Teasing my sister was easy, reminding myself of the same thing when I'm getting chewed up by mosquitoes is much harder.
