This little guy was found in my backyard near our strawberry patch. He was waaay to young to be out of the nest this soon. I tried finding his nest, and watched for nearby parents, but no luck. It was too late to take him to the local wild bird clinic, so I put my wildlife rehabilitation skills to work! I made a temporary "incubator" with my old hermit crab tank. It already had heating pads attached to the sides, and for extra warmth I used hand warmers I use for winter fieldwork! Now this little guy is happily eating with other babies at the clinic
Temporary Incubator
He was hungry, so I fed him cut up worms from my compost bin. I also gave him drops of water from my finger...much safer than a syringe (prevents aspiration)
Night night baby, the towels kept the heat close to his body
Good morning, time for a trip to your new home!
