I want short perches, say 4 inches or so, of natural wood perches. Any recommendations about wood types? It would be great to get a kind of wood they can nibble on or strip.

Thanks. :)

Cajeput would be a good one! Very papery bark. And willow is a lot of fun to chip at - it had kind of a "corky" bark. Eucalyptus is also a fun-to-peel bark.

Stryder, our Tiel, LOVE anything with Bark - Willow, Apple, and I think we have a Cajeput perch too.

We also have a Flagstone perch for him, and he enjoys mellowing out on it too :)

Grapevine is great for stripping. Most coniferous trees have chunky bark that peels easily.

They have flagstones, which they like. Good suggestions, thanks. Now, who sells such perches? I'll check the venders here.

you can also take branches that have fallen...like apple trees et. you have to disinfect them first and debug them...Sam used to have a small apple tree..you have to be careful tho..no cherry.

Do you guys not have trees or native land you can visit to collect branches?
I cut a lot of my own branches but there's nothing that's as shreddable as the grapevine or cajeput. I buy those.

Hubby would probably have a cow if I brought in branches from the woods behind us. He worries too much.
I don't know how to add the hardware on.

Danielle at The Little Perch Company does custom orders. You can tell her the length, diameter and type of wood you want.
