humidifier bacteriostat

I am assuming this is not safe to add to the water in a cool mist humidifier? It is supposed to control mold/mildew growth.,..

What type of humidifier do you have?

I have a GermGuardian and only add water. Nothing else is needed for maintenance.

I have a few different types....but the larger one is a Kenmore...I have never had problems and I clean weekly, but always worry anyway! lol Just wondering if this was safe to add, but am thinking it might not be....

Leslie,I have always been afraid to use it.Now I add a couple drops of GSE.

I just clean mine weekly with bleach and the base I empty everyday so the water doesnt stagnate in the bottom and clean that weekly with white vinegar. I think if you change the water daily and do the weekly cleaning it is fine, plus the air purifier is in the room too where my birds are, I am sure you have one too.

Thanks Pat...I will do the bleach too. And yes, in the large area I have two air purifiers running 24/7.

birdlady, i think you are referring to the dehumidifier not humidifier which controls the growth of molds and mildew?

Oh this is an old thread! Lol and no I was talking about the humidifier....I do run a dehumidifier in my basement though
