I have had a parrotlet before, i miss her very much, but i do not miss her screaming and screetching, she could do this for hours ongoing and was very demanding, never seemed satisfied.
I am now looking for a more low maintenance bird, a bit tame, but not needy, and not noisy.
I like zebra finches, and their sweet beeps, but they aren't tame.
I am reading up on other quiet bird species. Bourkes have been recommended here, but what about linnies?
How vocal and how loud are they?
I read that they are tiny, quiet and easy going clowns and i love how they look.
What are your experiences in living with two indoor linnies?
And i read about the droppings.....how bad are they? Cage pictures with droppings are welcome!
I have read they can poo from inside the cage on the floor and walls.is this true?
When they are out the cage, do the droppings go everywhere and are they hard to remove?

Well, linnies are my love. I have 13, 11 in an aviary and 2 in a cage in the living room Because they are old. I brought them in just before winter and expect to put them out in a couple of weeks. They tend to be noisy first thing in the morning when they come out of the aviary. Ozzy in the cage calls to those in the aviary, louder than bourkes, and evenings they are noisy. I would expect 2 in a cage on their own wouldnt be too noisy as no real need for contact calling.

yes, poops are bad. A lot of their diet is fruit and veg so a lot of water content. However saying that not as bad as our Senegal. They do clean up easily though, if they are still wet, a bit of elbow grease is needed if dry.

they can be tamed if hand reared and are wonderful friendly little guys. Although I guess every bird is different.

good that you are researching different suitable birds. Hope someone can offer indoor bird experiences

I'm currently rehoming my Linnie Bosco because of the noise. I would not keep a single Linnie ever again. He desperately wants a friend and screams for hours to let me know this. It's not a pleasant screech!

Mine is completely hands off and afraid of me. I have no physical interaction with him. So I cannot comment on that much.

A single is seemingly bad at entertaining himself lol. He does chew toys and likes to bash bells, but he calls after my Bourke's all the time because he doesn't want to be alone. So again, a pair seems crucial.

The droppings can be gross. I've never had a bird poop mid flight until a Linnie. He launches it on my walls, counters... I once had it on my coffee pot :gag:And it's big and sloppy for the size of bird! Inside the cage it's not so bad. It definitely firms up with pellets in the diet. Wet is fine to clean up, dry is a bit harder.

Bosco does occasionally poop through the cage bars onto the wall too, but I don't think that's specific to linnies as my green cheek used to do it too (and with more regularity!)

They are adorable clowns though. :) I really wish it worked out with Bosco because besides the screaming, he's delightful. Super smart, always surprising me with his antics, and his non screaming noises are oh so cute. He can mimic every sound my Jardine's makes!
