Hi. We have had our black-capped conure Tulsi for 5wks now. She’s 9mo old. We were told by the pet shop she was hand raised by the breeder. Our daughter has had one from the same breeder for 3yrs, also hand raised. Though I will admit, I recently did some research into the breeding company and it was sadly way less than stellar.
Anyway- she has been a joyful addition to our family thus far. We’re still learning about each other, I have her on a pellet and chop diet and she’s maintaining weight at or around 70-73g. We did do a feather DNA test recently w/avian.animal genetics (?) and awaiting the results. We had no plans on that but we went into a local shop this week looking for something, found out she’s a breeder (sure wish I had known about her before) and she recommended getting the bird sexed; and for $25 hope it’s true.
I named her Tulsi Blue Vana- Tulsi Vana being a sacred medicinal herb (wild holy Basil) I love as a nervine (good for the nervous system) and Blue came from the velociraptor on Jurassic Park because sommmmme days -
