Hi Sydney and a warm welcome to AA. I am long retired from nursing but we never forget ourTiny bir education and boards.
Will you be in your own home or apartment with the bird? Do you want tiny, small, medium or large bird. There are two classifications of old work parrots and new world parrots and the two should not be mixed. Old world refers usually to African and Asian birds and new world refers to Conures, Amazons, Macaws and others. Tiny birds would be finches and canaries. Small would be lovebirds, budgies or the cute little parrotlets. And of course medium sized birds are many but I love a Cockatiel as do many others.
I'm looking into conures. I will likely live in an apartment. I live in dorms right now and wont purchase a bird right now until I'm settled. Just doing lots of research. I'm also interested into doves. I like the idea of a long lived bird. I dont mind size. Cause I will give it everything it needs exercise wise and cage wise but I'm intimidated by very large birds. I'm new to birds other than the injured pigeon I found a few years back.
