Walking the driveway
Just wanted to say hello to everyone.
I've been on a couple boards for a few years, so I'm sure there are tons of familiar feathers around to catch up with. ;-)
My husband and I have five kids, and I'm an apprenticing midwife. I love taking pictures and spending time at home. Right now, we do not have a parrot, but we do have three cats, two chickens and a 55 gal fish tank.
Paulie von Beaker was my family's first parrot - a Blue Crown Conure. In summer 2003, he somehow got out of his outside cage and flew away. He was clipped, but must've been just enough to get some wind and he didn't know how to come back.
It took me a couple years, but I decided if I were going to get another bird, it would be my dream bird! I found a wonderful breeder and while I was waiting for Magnus to come home, did TONS of research on African Greys. Because of Paulie, I kept him fully flighted so he would know how to come back to me if anything happened, and I think it was the best thing ever. Unfortunately, Magnus died for no known reason last Spring. We. were. heartbroken. Still are.
I am starting to feel happy when I think of having a bird again, whereas up until recently, the idea made me sad. I am still having some reservations, though. Two bad endings under my belt, maybe I shouldn't...but I really miss having a feathered friend in our house.
Glad to have found this board!
