Hi. I am new here. I live in Thailand, but next week my partner and I are emigrating to live in the UK. We are going to live on a narrowboat on a canal! It will be a massive change in lifestyle to adapt to, and I'm excited and also worried lol.
I had to rehome all my birds here in Thailand, as I can not take them with me
It was very sad to do.
I kept and bread exotic songbirds, softbills (like mynah birds and thrushes), painted quails, fancy chickens, ducks, pigeons, parakeets, doves, and Gouldian finches, guinea fowl and peafowl. It was my hobby, as well as a source of income.
I also rescued and releases many wild birds. People in my area knew I loved birds, and so if they found any injured, sick or orpanned ones they would bring them to me. I had the pleasure of hand rearing and releasing many unusual birds like the Asian Koel, Coucal, white breasted water hen, and others. I was always a joy to see them finally go free back to nature, and even some would still hang about and visit me for a few days for food, and one pied wagtail comes back each year on migration to my garden and will still sit on my arm!
Anyway, once in the UK I want to get just one bird (as I can not imagine my life without birds). I have never kept canary as they do not have them in Thailand, so I hope to get on as a pet on the boat.
I am also interested in the European Goldfinches or Goldfinch Mules, but I have no experience of them...so need some help finding out about their care...any tips welcome.
Thanks
