Hello! A couple of questions

Hi all, I am seriously looking into getting a bird, and have a couple of questions about bird life: how much is our house going to have to change? we have non stick pans and aerosols all over the place for starters, however the deal breaker is going to be with my other pets, how likely is a bird to go after geckos? I have three geckos who I love wholeheartedly however if there is even a chance that a bird could hurt them then its an instant no to a parrot
sorry for the speel!

Hi and welcome

I have a leopaRd geckos and a gargoyle gecko in my birds room my birds don’t bother with them at all (even when feeding geckos with pico on my shoulder he’s not bothered )when I first got the birds my gargoyle used to jump at glass when birds were flying doesn’t do it anymore though mine are lovebirds so not a big parrot though
What are you thinking of getting ?

I have crested geckos, and have heard a lot about jealous birds terrorising other pets and got worried, and I was looking at senegals or a similar sized species, any reccomendations?

Yup, the non-stick pans and aerosols will need to go! I've also replaced my hair dryer with ceramic ones too along with my sisters. Perfumes, scented candles, incense and essentials oils are also big no-nos. Personally, the biggest change for me is time. Lots of time is needed to clean (I vacuum at least 5 times a day and that doesn't include wiping stuff down like poop). Birds are messy! Also time prepping fresh food for them, cage out time, cleaning cages, making/replacing toys. For me, since I work full time too, it's basically like having two full time jobs or having toddlers while working full time.

That said I absolutely love my feathered little buggers and would do it all over again in a heartbeat! :wacky:

wow! that sounds like a lot of work, I dont work although I will be going to college soon, which may be something to consider, also I will need to talk to my mum about replacing her pots and pans (she is very fond of them!) and aerosols to, what kinds of things do you mean? we use normal cleaning products, not natural or anything, as well as air freshener, thank you!

Yup! If you're going to be going off to college soon then I would definitely give it more thought as things can change a lot during and after college. You might meet a significant other, want to continue studying, maybe internships and job hunting, lots of people move/re-locate during or after school and you might want to spend some time travelling too (I personally did a lot of this in my college years which wouldn't have been possible with my two now). I replaced all the pots and pans in our home to ceramic and stainless steel ones. Aerosols, I would say basically all of them, especially if they have a scent. No air fresheners. I use vinegar mixed with water solution and a bit of dawn dish soap to clean, and if I want the house to smell nice then I brew some coffee or boil some floral teas

I'd wait till after college. But keep researching! And meeting parrot's.

One of my parrots was given up by a college student who loved her very much, but college, dating, working, there is no time for a highly intelligent, highly social, and highly active species . They are incredible companions, but they require dedication for all to be happy.

The cons are noise, so much mess, expensive, time

I agree about waiting till your education is completed and you are independent from living with parents. It will be worth the wait.
