I totally know what you mean about it being so hard as it is your last addition. I am much in the same boat, before that I pondered for years if I could ever have a larger bird, what species I would pick. I preferred a rehome with a known personality(turns out that is not always reliable though I still love rehomes especially the older guys). Orion's add just felt right.

I think it can definitely help raising caiques around 'your' species!! And some are totally fine, but then you never know. But it's good to be prepared to be able to keep them seperate. I also think hahns are like illigers and YCM, but toned down. But I have met a fair shair of illigers, only two YCM and no hahns, except in sanctuary.

Have you heard suns in real life? I thought their particular noise was not so bad in a group setting, but a individual bird sounding off, not great. But some people don't mind at all. As you do so well with your flock, maybe it is just right for you.
I do also think Blu is my size limit just for how my bird room setup etc

I have heard suns in a pet shop and didn’t think they were too bad there was four it didn’t bother me as much as Tiels Blu (blue crowned ) is loud

I do think it’s a toss up between rose crowned sun or caique but the aggressive of caiques scares me to death I do not want another indie

its so hard your flock is gorgeous you do amazing
Oh I forgot about the rose crownes, those were in my early years of having birds, my dream species! So very beautiful. These days I also really love rose fronted conures. All just look wise though, I think I have seen them in a big aviary with other pyrrhuras but not up close.

Yes I can imagine Blu can be annoying:laugh: He is so beautiful though. In my opinion more beautiful then suns, and Blu ust glows! But the personality of a lot of suns seems amazing.

Female minis are supposed to be more easy going I have heard, I have only met 2 girls and one was a handful, very bossy and more mean nippy.

Maybe post an add that you are willing to look after someones bird while they are on holiday? Would have to a vetted bird though, so chances are probably small you actually find someone with a species you are interested in. It is so difficult to pick a species, one can drive themselves insane!

Hahns are slightly smaller than BCCs and slightly larger than Jendays/Suns.
My Jimi is very sociable and quite a funny character, very trainable. and very hands-on.
But Hahns are just nippy. I have called it "conversational nippiness" because just like some people can't talk without using their hands, they seem to be the same way with nipping. It is not always a hard nip, some are gentle, but Jimi is not at all averse to giving me a nasty bite if he thinks I deserve it. And his temper can seem to change on a whim if you haven't become expert at reading body language. Even then, they are just too fast-moving to do anything about it sometimes.
Jimi is the only bird I have who bites me. Usually when he's mad at me for going to the vet. And he's the only one that I am sometimes afraid of. And remember I have had flighted male Blue-front Amazons with a mate.
We had a vet appointment this morning and he ripped a huge gash all the way down one finger getting him into the travel cage. He has had cause in the past to pierce my ear cartilage and make a single leap from my lap to put a hole thru the septum of my nose. I have scars. But he is still the one who gets to hang out with me one on one the most. He had some sedation at the vet for some imaging and he was seeing a lot of pink elephants so I'm hoping he doesn't remember and take it out on me for the next 5 days as is usual.

I think all mini macs have the potential to be nippy and the ones I have seen tend to be one person birds. Very jealous and possessive but great if you're their person. I have 2 friends with Suns and they adore them. Sweet and funny. If you can tolerate the noise. As for caiques, I would never trust a caique around a smaller bird.

Ahww Jimi sounds like a wonderful little guy!!! Conservational nippiness is such a great way to describe what I mean. In what way is he hands on with you? Orion rarely wants hands on play but loves for me to hand him toys and do activities together and is very happy to be on/near you, Jona can play like a puppy but is under 2 years old, I am hoping he won't outgrow that wild crazy play.

It does depend on the bird, but yeah I could call my YCM mean sometimes hahaha.
Going to try to give some examples but I am so bad at getting across what I mean.

I have seen people pick up birds when they are something they are not supposed to be, but with mine(and my green cheek to a lesser extent) that is more easily said then done. They may step up but if they don't get a reward they fly back instantly and will not step up again. If you do treat them, hey, I can get a treat if I fly here. Of course it is a little more complicated then that, but that is an example of what I mean by spicy. I see tons of birds that if you are a little persistent, they come off, but not my boys. But then I am very free choice oriented in how I handle my birds(as I think many on this forum are), but still mine would not tolerate being handled as I see some birds on social media being handled.

You don't tell any bird no(as in, they will protest, probably hahaha), but usually distract etc. But sometimes they get a little worked up, really quickly, and they tend to nip, jona a little worse he flies at faces. He doesn't bite bite, and if you handle it right it is totally fine but my SO is a little less great in handling that behaviour then I am. So he was excited, and he was going to fly at my SO, I was feeling experimental so I said, Jona no, don't. Usually we have other things we do to mold that behaviour. He stopped! Getting all excited and flew at me actually intent to bite. Whoops. I think the second time I told him no like that, and I was very calm not mad or anything, just like oh don't just come over here and play with me. Because it is not malice when he does it but excess energy(and he flies a ton and is usually in his cage just 2 to 3 hours to eat) The flying at faces behaviour has already gotten much much better, but my older illigers still did it if you can't calm him down quickly enough, or put some distance and toys between you and them.

Both of them sometimes just nip to see if it gets a reaction. I observed it Jona recently too, Orion has done it since we adopted him.
I have a scar in my finger it seems because a few months back I was tying to things together. Birds were interested and I always let them help, it was on one of the trees, so 'theirs'. If I pay attention it is never a problem, if they react I act accordingly and it is never an issue, sometimes if they are not comfortable I just wait till they are asleep. But I was so absorbed because the things just were not behaving and jona decided it was his and I needed to leave. I missed it as he was on my back(I was a little bend over) he got some good bites in there. Lesson learned. :roflmao:

Seriously I love mini macaws, if you like their attitude it is perfect. They are little buggers but I love it. Of course they are all different and some are just sweeties, Orion is mostly sweet/well predictable so it is easy to avoid situations. I always know what jona is going to do too(at least when I pay attention) but his mind changes every few seconds. Orion gets like that too, but less often, which could be older age, but from what I heard he has always been a little less in your face more laid back. He also comes to 'help' with stuff and has a big aggression potential in those moments if you deny him something. But if you think it through before(put something down to give him for example) it's totally okay. They both give back stuff when I ask too because they know the reward is good, but if they are really into something they may just fly off. Oh, massive havoc causers mine too, why do they have to pick up ceramic bowls and fly off with them hahaha and stuff like that. Sorry it got so long, I just always think of one more thing:(

I would love a sun!!! But hate the noise so would never. I have considered hahns but I liked the other more. I think aside of the noise which realistically I would not want to live with same for quaker although I kinda like their scream, I would pick a sun, hahns, quaker, Senegal. Caiques are awesome but that aggression is not something I want in my flock. One day though, if I can have a seperate area I would love to have 2.

So excited to see what species you decide on. There aren't any bird stored over there where you can meet a few, are there? If you can see the species at a sanctuary or something that would probably help in getting an idea for their behaviour types at such.
Oh my God Jona IS spicy. Though I would simply refuse to believe that when I remember his innocent baby pics!!

For sun conures... the noise isn't too bad for me. But I wear headphones most of the day and have a pair, so they keep each other occupied! The sound when my Jendays join in on the screamfest.... painful. They will be moving into an outdoor aviary soon enough :D let's hope the neighbors dont miiind

He does let me examine him all over and is constantly telling me "scratch" especially when he had headfeather pins (he can say "scratch"). and he has no fear of hands or towels at all. He will just stand on the back of a chair twice daily for his yucky meds.
But what I was meaning by "hands-on" is that while he is OK with passive attention from me (like sitting with me while I read my kindle or computer) he really thrives with me giving him more active, hands-on attention. He wants to interact and sing and dance, play games, learn tricks, help me fold laundry, help me do his food and water, share a safe meal with me on his own dish....just be on me and be involved.
It sounds like you definitely know what I mean!!! :hehe:

Does she still breed them? Maybe waiting for another BCC is the way to go.

I would hate you  But seriously I think outside it tends to be loads more tolerable, and somehow multiple birds make it easier for me too. Hope your neighbors will love their exotic sounds:D

Isn't that the truth! And they can be so bossy and entitled sometimes. I had a friend over to sample some Christmas cookies I baked and we were sitting on the floor eating them. When I gave them one of my filled cookies (raisens and walnuts) Jimi knew what it was and stomped over and wrestled it away from them because obviously I had made a mistake and given it to the wrong "person".

I would not call Guiseppe mean. He is occasionally nippy but mostly if you annoy him, such as get a pin feather wrong. But he is fast. By time you see the body language it is too late and the beak is very sharp. Guiseppe loves to sit on me get head scritches and dance. I personally would love another but I don't have the time or energy right now.
Jason my Senegal is quite the clown but unfortunately he is cage bound. Something scared him several years ago when he was outside his cage, and he has since refused to come out of his cage. He does love to be scratched while sitting in his cage and he loves to talk and clown around with me while he is in his cage but open the door and he screeches like you are killing him and he flees to the back of his cage.

I always caution people about mixing beak sizes. It's not impossible but it does add another layer of difficulty. As you know, I have my goffin and tiels. Elvis is never allowed out with the tiels. Not that he's aggressive. I think he likes them. But accidents can happen so quickly. And Elvis is fast. Just something to consider. Separate out of cage time for birds can be time consuming.

I know that’s another part of my dilemma to consider considering beak size and strength of beak
