Hand raised baby Cockatiel vs Parent raised 1y.old Pionus

@Dusanbe - I am curious how the deciding is going?

I wanted to add, if you are leaning towards the pionus but still thinking about the cockatiel, you could maybe add a cockatiel if you still feel that way in the future. Just because they are smaller, doesn't mean they need to be brought home first.
I know many great birds owners here on the board who brought home a larger bird, and later went on to bring home someone smaller (conures, budgies etc).
There are also many wonderful bird owners who have just one bird that is not a budgie, cockatiel, conure.

Cockatiels are known, along with all the cockatoos & greys, to be the dustiest birds, even compared to other ‘old world’ (for lack of a better term) birds.
I’m not knocking tiels, which I greatly admire, but we should be honest. I have dusty birds too, though not as dusty as tiels.

Given the dust I get from my birds, I honestly don't know how cockatiel and cockatoo owners do it. I picture them all spending the day with a hoover in one hand and a duster in the other

At first, thank you very much for all for the comments, i really appreciate all of the effort and input into helping us to decide. We have been thinking about this inside-out, going throught episodes of deciding for one or the another... At the end, we think that the bond created by the time with the parent raised animal will probably be healthier for both sides and we are now thinking of it as of more of an advantage. We know that the beggining could be more difficult, but in the long run, we might get a more confident, independend and emotionally stable bird. And she just had that sort of "vibe" or "aura" around her :-D

So, we are taking her home on 18.5!

So, the big day is here! Johanka is with us! She was really brave during the car ride, it was short, just around 40minutes. Afther seeming stressed, she was just frozen in the cage, but afther about 15minutes, she started to eat pellets and a strawberry. Now, its 7.PM here and she seems tired, her eyes are slowly closing, she seems calm and comfortable. She also "spoke" a tiny bit, the cutest sound imaginable. We are very happy, Johanka really seems to be a very brave and calm bird. I will post some better photos tommorow as it is getting dark now and we don´t want to stress her. These are just the traveling photos.

Less than a 24 hours in new home and this parent raised untamed outdoor aviary wonder bird already eats nuts from our hands! I did not expect that at all. I am so happy.

What are their favourite nuts so far?!

We tried only walnuts so far, but not much, as she eats absolutely everything. Any piece of vegetable is a reward for her. We are giving her a big variety of everything in small bits. Her favourite activity is searching for small pieces of vegetables in her toys.

She is super calm and intelligent. Getting her instead of hand-raised cockatiel was instinctive and great decision. Thank you everybody for encouraging us to get her.
