Hair Obsession

Hi!!! I just brought my baby dusky home yesterday. She is adjusting well, eating, sleeping well and she's so sweet. My issue is that she's obsessed with everyone's hair. All she wants is to climb in hair. Any ideas to discourage this without losing her trust?

Hey there!

I think your safest option is to wait a day or two, see if she stops, as she might lose interest quickly.
If not, tie hair up, try to keep her away from your head (as much as possible). Not sure what else you can do as a newly brought home birdie can be quick to lose trust and first impressions are important. Best of luck :)

My GCC loves hair - always prefers to be on my head than anywhere else, same with my son. We usually just put him back to our shoulder when he climbs up, and he will end up nuzzling in the nape of the neck with the hair. Sometimes I think it is the hair, and sometimes I think it is just the search for the highest perch, but usually after a couple times being put back to the shoulder and getting scratches there, he will stay.

How is your baby doing?

I would think there is a slight chance it was a secure and comforting feeling hiding in or behind hair, for a new baby, being in a new home with new people can be quite intimidating and scary.
