Hello to everyone,
I am the new owner of a 14 year old Congo African Grey named Paulina. Paulie for short. My husband and I are her third owners and she's our first bird. Paulie's first owner went into hospice care when she was nine and passed away. No one else in his family wanted her so she was returned to the breeder - who had her own pair bonded birds and a new set of hatchlings to raise. My mother-in-law, who has a big heart, and acts on it, felt bad for Paulie and adopted her without realizing how much work she would be. She gave it a good run for the next few years but it was necessary to re-home her. Since my husband and I were the only other ones in the family Paulie liked we got her. We've had her for exactly 3 weeks now and it's been a massive learning curve. She's already learned how to meow like our cat, Teagan and (unfortunately) how to beep like the dying battery indicator on our fire alarm.
As I am a teacher, I have the time to invest in her training after school and this coming summer, so I'm sure I'll be pestering people for lots of tips and hints. My husband and I have already been inspired to start building a play stand for her based on some of the great photos we saw here.
I'm looking forward to learning about all of you and your flocks!

P.S. A picture of my pet family: Paulie the CAG, and Teagan (deaf tabby) the cat with guest appearance by Neil Patrick Harris.
