Good UPDATE!!! pray for my sun conure Zeus <recovered>

I put my birds on the porch since its been so nice outside. I have been doing it for the past week. Well today he escaped. I can see him in the tree but he wont come down. The tree isn't climable and the fire dept wont come out here for a bird. I'm lost and do not know what to do. I have his cage out in the yard with his girlfriend in it and she has called for him and I have been calling for him. He will answer me back and I can see him but he isnt coming down. just pray he comes down. Any thing else I can do?
All i know is he scooted the grate on the cage and slipped out. I am so afraid i will loose him. I am crying right now. Got to get back outside now

Calm down. Take his cage outside with the door open and put millet on top where he can see it. Does he have a buddy? Take his friend outside also in a secure cage so s/he can call to Zeus.

My sun conure escaped once, I called and called him. I didnt get him back till the following morning. I got my quaker in a small cage and started loving on her outside with her in the smaller cage, he got jealous and flew down to me and I shoved him in the cage.
YOU ARE IN MY THOUGHTS...he will come down, just keep trying. It is cold this time of year but I have had websites say to hose them so they are too heavy to fly but that is WAY to dangerous if you are in a place where it is cold like here.

Oh no...good that you have his girlfriend out there, but you want him to be able to get inside the cage...so maybe a small carrier with her inside it and then pup in the larger one?

I caught my BCC Tiki...( he was not my bird then). I had bird food sprinkled on the ground in front of me and a towel on my lap....it took six hours for him to fly down and get close enough for me to throw the towel over him and grab him. And he wasn't even my bird! So you can do this! Keep talking and talking.....

Don't take your eyes off of him, have somebody else on the computer, use some of the suggestions from the links such as:

1. Have someone watch the bird at all times if he is spotted and you need to go for help.
2. If you try to climb the tree, it often times scares them up. A long branch may be better to coax him onto. Use your head here. Raise his cage to where he is.
3. Have friends and family miles away in other cities watch the lost and found ads.
4. If he is roosted near dark, wait until dark before trying to retrieve him. They don't fly well at night, and they don't want to fly, but make sure you don't miss. You may use a high powered flashlight to momentarily blind the bird while another person nets or grabs the bird.
5. If sighted, keep the mobs of people away, and let the owner try and coax him down. Have your helping friends in tall trees or on roof tops to watch where he goes if he takes off. You NEED spotters prepared and willing.

Like the others have said move a cage outside with one of his buddies to call for him. Make sure cage doors are secured with hasps or quick links. Night and early morning when they are hungry is usually the times you will find them.

Good luck! You've been given great advice. I was once able to get my parakeet out of a tree years ago by spraying her with the hose. I got her soaked and she couldn't fly away, just kind of glided down to the ground. It was a very hot summer day, though.

You're bird will come down eventually. Just be patient and keep an eye on him. Maybe you could send someone to go and rent one of those really tall ladders from Home Depot.

I am praying for you, when Tater escaped he stayed in my neighbors pecan tree for 2 days and we finally had to throw a fishing line up there to get him to fly to a new tree and eventurally he flew to the ground. Don't give up and keep calling him. Maybe go outside and sit on a chair with his favorite food and act like it is the best thing ever and he might get gealous enough to come down. If it is night, he will more than likely just hunker down for the night, but first thing in the morning start calling him. He will come back!!!

ok got good news. I went a sat on the porch and I moved the rest of my birds outside and got them all to hollering and he flew down and cuddled into my shirt. yay my baby is home. got a pic of him too in his new hideout. will post it soon as I get my other computer working
