Hello everyone,
Sharky is a little blue and white budgie that landed on my neighbor's porch. I've had previous experience with budgies so I offered to take him in while we found the owner. Well 3 months later, no owner came forward. 8 other budgies have been found in my general area so we're suspecting a breeder or someone gave up and released them.
Two avian vet appointments, a few hundred bucks in supplies, and lots of love and initial training later, Sharky is the most important creature in my life. He survived hawks and severe weather (including wildfires in our area) so he deserves nothing but the best life.
My favorite things about Sharky: He doesn't squawk like my other budgies did. HE SCREAMS. He's as loud as parrots twice his size. When I'm working at my desk, he gets as close to my computer as he can and offers me very insightful advice through his chirps and warbles. He LOVES outside birds. I put a hummingbird feeder outside the window by his cage. One hummingbird in particular is absolutely fascinated by Sharky, and Sharky is fascinated by the small bird that visits to say hi. We'll work on getting him a partner once we're settled in.
Our biggest challenges: I'm moving to a new apartment this week. It's an older city apartment so it needs a deep clean. However, I can't use any harsh cleaners. So I'll be using lots of elbow grease and looking for any potential hazards. I'll also be working on creating a living room where he can free fly - plenty of perches and grass mats to fly around to. Sharky is still a picky eater. I'm working bit by bit to get him on nutriberries. We're also experimenting with chop. Still haven't found anything that captures his interest. Today we're trying broccoli, corn (small amount), spinach (small amount), alfalfa sprouts, and red sweet pepper - mixed with some seed and millet.
