Way to go!

I'm thinking I need to learn how to make perches from fresh wood. We have access to woods ......acres and acres.

It's birch. We have larger "seedlings" growing in the garden. I pulked the bark off evern though the website said i didn't have to.

Looks great! Next time, leave the bark on. The birds like to pull the bark off themselves! :D

Do you bake wood to sterilize it or something? I'm always afraid of bringing in bugs on the wood. The perch looks great, though.:)

I soak mine in a vinegar/water solution for several hours, let air dry and then bake to kill any bugs.

Love DIY perches! Most of my perches and my playstand are DIY. You did a great job!

@JosienBB I have 2 other braches from birch, so i stripped 1, half stripped another and left the other one.

:)

My other perches are from a shrub and I'm trying to find out if they are safe or not but can't find the shrub.

Love it! ♥ And agree with @JosienBB keep the bark on. :)
They love to chew the bark off. That's one of the reasons I change the wood in both cage and playstand twice a year.
They also love to chew on apple and pear wood.

Soo, here it is so far, is it overcrowded with perches for a medium bird?

The dowels will be rope perches as soon as i make them. This was just for spacing.

6 perches, 1 a flat platform. 2 of them the bird should be able to fully extend the wings. They are weight tested. ( i looked up how many grams a typical bird of the kind im looking to get, doubled it in ounces and used water baggies..)

Its hard to get a good feel via photos but the perches are pretty far apart and at all different levels.

It looks fantastic! ☺

I wish I was your bird *giggle*

- How did you remove the bark from the perches you've made?
I want to learn that to. ☺

Umm I was caveman like.. I got the brunches from the yard so they were still soft.. i used a flat headed screwdriver.. carefully and wedged the head between bark n center and kinda just stripped it away

I use something like the picture below, the sharp edge is great for just running down the branch and stripping off the bark.
The backside of it I use to roughen up the wood, also works great on dowels so they arent smooth.
