This morning. I was in bed and around 6:45 I kept hearing a noise from downstairs. Honking.
Listened for a minute or so more, it didn't stop.
Ran down the stairs and uncovered Dolly. She came right on me but was shaking her head frantically. I grabbed her water bowl and tried to get her to take a drink. She was grinding her beak and shaking her head. I got her calmed down enough to put some water on her beak and a wee bit in her mouth.
She couldn't swallow and the water ran down. I sat her on my lap and massaged her throat.
5 minutes later she was finally calm and had stopped honking and shaking.
I just let her rest on my lap for about 10 more minutes to make sure she had swallowed whatever was stuck.
I put her back in her cage and right away she had quite a few good drinks of water.
I covered her again so she could get some rest, but I couldn't go back upstairs just in case.
It's almost 9 am and I haven't heard a peep out of her since I put her back in.
Poor wee thing.
I will see how she is in a wee while, and if she's not feeling too good I will get her to the vets when they open.

Pippen will get water down the wrong pipe and sneeze and cough for a while. Scared the crap outa me the first time I heard her doing it.
Vet gave us some antihistamine powder in case she gets bad but luckily she hasn't needed it yet.

So scary...,

Be so very careful giving water. My avian vet gave me a stern no no . When I told her I'd given a little water to the rescue budgie. She said it's way to easy for them to choke or it go down the wrong pipe with straight water. She advised me it's better to do a slurry ( like water down n formula or water downed applesauce.)

I know you were careful and doing what you felt right. I'm just sharing , because she was so very adamant with me, to never do under any circumstances...

Thank you everyone who replied.
Once she was calm and relaxed, I remembered she had done this before.
The result is the same as it was back then.
She is sitting on her egg she had about 8 hours after her ordeal, which luckily didn't last more than 5 minutes.
Now, however, I need to stop this.
I am hearing mixed views regarding side effects from lupron and hormone shots.
Can anyone with experience help me out please?
