Hi! I’m just curious to know if all female Blue Headed Pionus squawk during their hormonal times? I haven’t really read much to deny or confirm that, so I figured I’d ask here. Thanks bunches!

I believe all female Pionus are loud when hormonal.

I’d say it depends on the individual. Pionus species are similar - I’ve only heard of a few cases in maybe 17 years where the honking was problem enough to get treated with hormones, and even then wasn’t successful. Actually thinking about it, I seem to remember these were White-capped Pionus: I knew of 3 where sexual behaviour was a problem.

I have a female Amazon Bobbie who honks when hormonal. I just try to dissuade it by removing the item that’s causing it - me! I encourage other behaviours from her instead which I reinforce. It’s not a problem and it’s certainly less than it used to be.

I wouldn’t let that put you off getting a female Blue-headed Pionus. Kobe was sold to me as a female but in his first week I guessed he was a male.
