One of the presents to my babies was basswood perches :) Man does basswood smell horrible when getting cut! :glare: I had ordered the hanger bolts and hanger bolt tool from BBT and man that made things so easy! I got the wood from Michaels Craft store and used a coupon ;)

I can't even really describe the smell. It's nothing like what regular 2x4's. We were cutting in the driveway in front of the garage, and we had to open the back garage door to get more air flow. The smell lingered

Stainless hanger bolt sets- $3.75 x4
Hanger bolt driver- $4.95 (not necessary but made it super easy)
I got the above items from Blues Bird Toys during her last sale and I got free shipping :)
Stainless Steel Hardware

Basswood slices were around $9 each I think... I used a 40% off coupon and then had a 20 or a 25% off my entire purchase total.

I figured it would be cheaper for me in the long run to make my own. I have one bird that I know will destroy them

Good to hear the bolt driver tool works well...I bought from Jan also...I have some basswood that I got from a craft store also. Just need to get it cut - I don't have a power saw...will be asking a relative to cut it for me soon. :D

You did a wonderful job making the perches! Is the wood easy for Perry to destroy?

So far she has only chewed off a little bit if the bark, then she lost interest. She sits on it a lot though. It might last longer than I was thinking ;) I can get a damage pic tomorrow.
