I've seen a couple place recomend small amounts of coattage cheese? Forgive my ignorance but, is it that much different from regular cheese that it's ok to feed it to birds? What about the lactose intollerance part? Is there no, or a very small level of it in cottage cheese?

The organisms that change milk into cottage cheese "digest" much of the lactose in the milk. The same goes for yogurt except that yogurt still has live cultures - a good thng. You still should not give your bird large amounts of cottage cheese.

Regular cheese still contains all of the lactose that was in the milk it was made from. Additionally, most cheese contains high amounts of fats and not the good fats, but the ones that contribute to artherosclerosis. Some owners give their birds tiny amounts of cheese, but very seldom.

Not sure about cottage cheese, but TJ gets pieces of shredded cheese everynow and then. He seems to do ok with it.

A small amount is about the size of your fingernail once a week or less.

Mary Lynn thanks for that great link! Mine love cottage cheese and get 1/2 teaspoon, two days in a row once a month.

Okay that sounds strange... :D I only buy it once a month and DH eats it within two days. :)

Chiquita loves it but Boomer does not, the first time I have it to him he flung it across the room. lol But Chiquita will get it occasionally like yogurt. Not very often though.
