I've actually see a pic someone posted of a Cockatoo in the wild eating one and it shocked me so much because I've always read how they are deadly to parrots.
Parrots in the wild also have access and knowledge passed down about natural medicines, remedies and detoxifying supplements that we have not yet figured out. Just like onion and garlic- one feed with it in is not going to cause death but letting it build up in the system by eating frequently is going to overwhelm the kidneys and liver and such

Agree with this. I've always viewed it
as wild birds do alot more then just eat different plants, they know about what they can and can't eat when and with what.
If I remember correctly currawongs love eating kurrajong seeds.

Toxicity is very dependant on ratios of toxins to body, and of course, other factors such as health will come into play with toxic foods.
Wild birds also do often eat the seeds from apples (and salt, and fried foods, and chocolate and alcohol and so many other "toxic" foods as they steal it or clean up after messy humans picnics etc).

I think we are over cautious (which is generally safer than being carefree) and sometimes cause a terrifying fear of instant death for new bird owners if their bird grabs a piece of onion from their meal or has something that was made with avocado oil etc- I really think it would be best to educate properly instead of instilling fear by exaggerating... the build up of toxins from eating certain foods is more likely to cause a problem than a once off accidental beak full of them, so, it is best to avoid them as we do not know how much is too much for each individual bird and our captive birds do not have access to many of the natural resources that the wild birds do to help cleanse the system of toxins.
