I have a 1 yr and 8 months female cockatiel. Five days ago She lay only one egg and nothing more... is it normal? She is always fluffy and her vent is a bit big.. By the way, it is her 1st time..

I know some of my lovebird girls only laid one egg the first time.
Normally eggs are laid 24-48 hours apart until there´s a ¨full clutch¨.

I will tag some cockatiel people who may know better than me :)

She may only have one, but if shes poofy and her vent is swollen, there may or may not be another egg in there, can you gently feel the area,? You'll be able to feel the egg if its low enough, I would watch her closely, sometimes first layers will have another egg that dosent move as smoothly as the first egg, increase her calcium and if in doubt at all, have her checked.. :hug8:

I agree with Zara on the timing. My tiels would lay up to 2-4 eggs about a day apart. I'd recommend putting some cuttlebone in the cage to provide calcium to her. Keep an eye on her as sometimes they can become eggbound.

Cuttlefish bone won't provide any useful calcium. Fine ground eggshell, raw brocoli, cress, carrots. Or a calcium supplement like Calcivet.

I have a female who sometimes lays only one egg in her “clutch.” I’m glad she doesn’t seem egg bound!

i already put a cuttlebone.. i will prepare some eggshells and carrots.. thanks ripshod for the advice
Also do not remove the eggs that are laid. See if you can find fake tiel eggs and swap them out. If you remove eggs they sometimes lay "replacement" aggs.

is this egg a fertile one?
Does she have a male mate? If so then maybe.
If not, then no.
Also, it doesn´t really matter because it is broken.

I woke up this morning and one of my girls had done the same. Egg is completely smashed. Saves me a job later on trying to switch it for dummy eggs :)

You say you have a nest box? Are you trying to breed her?
