Hi,

My young cockatiel is being handfed from 2 weeks old since the parents refused to feed it. Now it is 6 weeks old and I noticed today that the upper beak is underdeveloped. I was worried that since it is weaning will it be able to eat by itself? If yes should I give it only small seeds or lovebird seed mix?

I am providing some pictures of the baby IMG-20210309-WA0024.jpg IMG-20210309-WA0022.jpg

Thank you

It’s like the lower beak sticks out too much, can you take him to an avian veterinarian?

Yeah, this doesn’t look like a regular beak. Also, that looks like a lovebird.
@Zara @Miss Annamarie both have/had lovebirds. They can bump the thread and help.

As Finchly said, this bird needs the vet to help them.
I don´t know of any ways to fix this at home, nor have I had any birds with beak issues.

I would stick to formula and cooked mashed veggies (warm), soaked pellets (warm) for now until you get to a vet.
