At Emma's (african grey) vet visit this week, I asked Dre. Beaulieu what she was checking for when she was looking at Emma's tongue.

She explained that it was possible to detect "nutritional deficiencies" in a parrot just by checking this area..

Don't forget that foods rich in Vitamin A are very important for our parrots.. I thought it would be helpful to share this for y'all!

Checking the choanal papillae is part of my avian vet's standard exam. I feed a lot of fresh shredded carrots so my birds don't normally have a problem in this area.

All of my vet reports say "choanal papillae normal" BTW, my vet pronouces "choana" like Co-Anna.
