Welcome to the neighborhood!
It is with great pleasure that I announce the FIRST "Celebirdy" here on Avian Avenue. (Scott) samccormack's Topper!!!
1. How did you aquire your bird?
I got her from a local bird shop called Feathered Follies. She looked so lonely I had to bring her home.
2. What is your birds name, species, age and sex?
Topper is 12 years old, and is a female Citron Crested Cockatoo
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
She has a unique flock call that I call her "Zeat Wheat" because that what it sounds like. She loves boxes and will dive into them with reckless abandon.
4. What are some of your birds favorite foods?
She likes Peas and Corn.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
She once threw a 24 can coke box off the top of her cage. It was amazing to watch such a little bird lift such a big box and hurl it.
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
Topper is my constant buddy. She wakes me up in the morning with an Eeeeep!, Zeat Wheat! or a soft "Hi Babies" and likes nothing better than to hang out on my shoulder and be my constant buddy. There is just something awesome about having a soft, warm, feathery friend mumbling in your ear and cuddling with you while you watch TV or hang out on the balcony.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
These birds are loud and require a lot of attention. They are particularly sensitive and are prone to plucking and other behavior problems if they are neglected. Topper is a good example of what can happen to an otherwise sweet bird if they are ignored over time. If you want a cockatoo make sure you get one who is compatible with your lifestyle and are OK being left by themselves during the day if you work and be sure to include them in all your household activities.
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Topper can be very loud and will scream if she knows I am around and she can't see me. She loves to play in boxes and will destroy at least one a week. Other than that she's not a super active bird and is content to sit on your shoulder for hours and mumble in your ear.
9. What are some of your birds quirks?
Topper is so skilled at plucking she knows how to shred her crest and has figured out how to barb just about all of her feathers. She hates any orange colored food and will not eat anything orange unless there is nothing else available.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
She only says a few things the most common and understandable thing she says is "Hi babies"
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Topper loves Peas and will almost eat her body weight in them if you give her some. She will try just about anything as long as it isn't orange.
