It is with great pleasure that I announce the
Celebirdy for the month of February 2023
@Icey 's Frankie
1. How did you acquire your bird?
My husband wanted a macaw, and saw an ad on Kijiji, so went and got him when I was at work.
He was bought from a breeder whose wife wanted one but he was apparently semi-tame.
2. What is your bird's name, species, age and sex?
Frankie is a male blue and gold macaw. His age is approximately 19 years of age.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
Frankie waves with both feet, rolls on his back for tickle time, gives high 5's, plays catch, and throws back quite accurately.
4. What are some of your bird's favorite foods?
Frankie loves pasta, mashed potatoes, peas, corn carrots, and he occasionally gets pizza.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
When we were in Canada, we lived in a bungalow. During the winter, we were getting a draft upstairs, and saw 2-3 cable holes on the floor.
I got some towel roll and stuffed them.
The next day I saw Frankie under his cage, so pulled it out to see what he was doing.
He had pulled all the stuffing out the hole and was laughing. I put it back in and told him to leave it. Well, of course he didn't so it became a game of me stuffing it and him pulling it back out and laughing at my feeble attempts. Then he came over to me and grabbed my finger and rolled over on his back, laughing the whole time. It was the first time he'd done that and I called hubby over to see. We couldn't believe it.
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
Frankie is a charmer. He greets me every morning with a kiss while I give him head scratches. He has given me a reason to get up in the morning just so I can see what antics he is going to get into. He brings me so much joy everyday. He teaches me as well as me teaching him.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
I would tell them they won't regret it. They are smart, funny, loveable, gorgeous birds with a great disposition.
They love you unconditionally, and have a great personality, not to mention their sense of humour.
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Frankie can be loud, but there's always a reason for it.
For example, he might not have to go all the way back to his cage from his play area to get a drink of water, so yells for the maid to bring it to him.
He can be left on his own with his toys. He's quite independent and can always find something to entertain himself if I'm busy.
9. What are some of your bird's quirks?
Frankie has a foot fetish. He always wants to beak my feet.
He also has his "toy" (a rattle) that he loves. It's like his security blanket. Whetever he goes, the toy goes with him.
Frankie really doesn't like hubby going in the kitchen unless he's giving him treats. Otherwise, Frankie will chase him out with his wings up and give an evil laugh after he's accomplished his mission.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
Good morning, how are you today?
He used to greet me with this every morning. Now I say it back to him. Lol
He picks up new words all the time, which I love.
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Pine nuts, nuts in shell (walnuts, pecans), pistacchio nuts and he absolutely loves his harrisons pellets as though they're a special treat.
