It is with great pleasure that I announce the
Celebirdy for the month of February 2018,
@Nikomania 's Harley!!!!!!
:congratsbig:
Here's what Nikomania had to say about the beautiful Harley...
1. How did you acquire your bird?
Panama Amazons are not very easy to come by. I found that many were listed as such, but then were found not to have the distinctive characteristic markings only found in Panamas. I searched for several months online before finding Harley at an aviary bird store in New Jersey. Harley was 9 months old when we had him flown out to us. We’ve had him for a little over 4 years. Harley was the third bird added to our flock.
2. What is your bird's name, species, age and sex?
Harley is a Panama Amazon, hatch date 1/27/13. He hasn’t been DNA’d, but we think he’s a female because he makes nesting sounds when resting on top of his water dish.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
No, not really, although he’ll raise his foot and say ‘up up’ whenever he wants his favorite person to pick him up.
4. What are some of your bird's favorite foods?
He’s a bit on the picky side, but definitely enjoys bananas and Nutri-berries.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
Harley loves to make the rolling ‘R’ sound. He loves to pipe in and ‘sing’ whenever we play music. He actually has an adorable repertoire of sounds and phrases.
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
We adore listening to him chatter, roll his R’s, sing like an opera star and laugh like a madman!
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
They are gentle, timid, and definitely do select their favorite person. They are engaging and beautiful!
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Harley is low energy. He can fly, but doesn’t choose to fly very often, unless he’s trying to reach his favorite person. Harley will definitely call loudly around twice a day. The rest of the time he’s either very quiet, or talking, jabbering, laughing and singing. Harley absolutely LOVES baths, and will spread his wings and bow down to let every single drop of water run down his feathers.
9. What are some of your bird's quirks?
He used to love an old canvas hat that my husband used to wear. We ended up hanging it on a toy hanger that came with his cage. He loved to perch on top of it. He also prefers men over women. Out of our six family members, there are only 2 who can actually pick him up without receiving a ‘love bite’.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
I don’t think he’s ever said anything too surprising. He doesn’t say very many things in context. What he does do is engage according to the energy of sounds he hears. If someone laughs, he laughs hilariously. If someone calls out to him, he’ll say ‘hi’ back. If someone sings, he’ll join right in, opera style.
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Nutri-berries, bananas and popcorn. Oh, and sunflower seeds, which we give him in very small amounts as special treats. Those are probably his absolute favorite treat of all. We use popcorn to encourage him back into his cage at night if his favorite person isn’t home to pick him up.
