Welcome to the neighborhood!
I am so excited to announce this month's winner....... Let's hear it for.....Juhi's Chhotu!!!!
1. How did you aquire your bird?
Around 6-7 yrs back me and DH were invited for dinner by one of his colleagues at his house, when we went we were greeted by the sweeeetest voice saying “Kaun aaya hai?” it means ‘who is it?’ And he repeated it quite a few times, it was a male ring neck .That was my very first experience with a parrot that close. I jokingly told the DH me too want a parrot but we never seriously gave it a thought. Fast forward couple yrs one fine day in march 2008 DH comes home with 2 fuzz balls in a small cage it was a surprise gift for me. She was the smallest of the 2, around 6-7 weeks old then.
2. What is your birds name, age and sex?
My birds name is Chhotu. She’s around 3 yrs old. My birds are not DNA sexed but as she doesn’t have a ring around her neck at 3 yrs my guess is she’s a female. She was named Chhotu because she was and still is the smallest of the 2 and Chhotu/Chhota means small in Hindi.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
She’s not that “do what you ask” type! But if you consider luring someone with sweet whistles, kisses and postures and then sinking the razor beak in their skin a trick she’s the girl! Yup she masters that trick and fools me every single time. She’s also a BIG TIME chicken scratcher!
4. What are some of your bird’s favorite foods?
Chhotu is bit of picky eater, but she loves bananas and apples.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
Everything she does is funny! She is head over heels in love with my hubby and when he’s around she tries so hard to get his attention its funny to watch. She’ll follow him everywhere and will try to get into his shirt.
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
Mitthu and Chhotu are my first pet ever!!! I didn’t know a thing about birds or how to care for them but soon I learned. Thanks to the internet and AA. I didn’t know parrots needed toys, big cage, and time out. When I learned about all this on the internet I tried to give them all the things they deserve as much as possible I started making toys on my own as most of you must know by now that you won’t find a single decent bird supply here. I learned the value of healthy nutritious food. Back then I couldn’t think of getting things imported from US so I tried to come up with things on my own and that’s how I learned what I know now and am still learning. Apart from that they have changed my life completely! I was not much of a patient person before. They brought so much love and laughter in my life I never knew such joy existed! I thank the lord above every single day for sending them into my life and introducing me to this side of the beautiful life I can not imagine my life without her.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
I would say that they are not the easiest bird. They might be small but full of attitude and personality. They can be loud when they want like real LOUD!! They need regular interaction. They are very intelligent, oh and yes they are known to hold grudges!!
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Chhotu is not much of an active bird. But once in a while she’ll play with shreddables and destroy wood coins in her foraging basket. She can be loud but only when she wants something or is calling otherwise she’s the sweetest bird.
9. What are some of your birds quirks?
Every morning when I uncover her cage she will fluff up and lunge violently at me but right the next second she’ll bow her head and demand scritches!! I find that very cute. Also if she doesn’t get her way she’ll throw a huge temper tantrum and she’ll start throwing everything around, take off her SS food bowl and bang it against the cage bars in anger! Yes she’s my angry young woman. She has a HUGE attitude you just can’t mess with her.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
She’s not much of a talker apart from occasional “JUI JUI JUI” I’ve never heard her say anything. But she’s a very good whistler and can pick them up real fast.
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Cashew nuts and nutriberries.
I would like to add just one more thing. Even though she hates me I love her sooo much! She and Mitthu are the MOST important part of my life
Thanks
XOXO
