Welcome to the neighborhood!
It is my pleasure to introduce the Celebirdy for the month of February
Kiwi!!
Here is what Bridgette had to say about her gorgeous sun baby
1. How did you aquire your bird?
After VooDoo (my tiel) passed away, I knew I wanted another bird but I wasn't sure what type. I knew I didn't want another tiel because I didn't want to feel that I was replacing VooDoo. In order to get some in-person time with different birds, I went to PetCo and PetSmart. I saw Kiwi at PetCo and fell in love. I didn't just want any sun conure-he was the one for me. I wanted to think on it since it was just a week since VooDoo passed. I had them hold Kiwi and went back for him less than 12 hours later.
2. What is your birds name, age and sex?
Kiwi is almost 2 years old (in May he turns 2) male sun conure.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
Kiwi doesn't do any real tricks, but he waves hi (when he feels like it LOL)
4. What are some of your birds favorite foods?
Kiwi loves Hagen pellets, Kathie's Bountiful Harvest, dried pineapple, dried papaya, and grapes.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
This is tough because Kiwi makes me laugh all of the time. The funniest thing he's ever done is probably when he was playing with his birdie bagel on the counter and he got so into it that he didn't realize how close he was to the edge of the counter. He shook that bagel till he fell off the edge. Thankfully, he flew before hitting the ground.
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
Having Kiwi has most certainly made my life better. He is the most loveable, loyal, entertaining animal I have ever kept. I have a hard time even referring to him as a pet or animal because he is so much more. He's a friend and a child to me.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
I know sun conures always get a bad reputation for being loud but, honestly, Kiwi isn't that loud. Granted, he has his moments but they aren't often and they don't last long. I know he is probably the exception, though. I would also suggest you avoid sun conures if you work a lot and are away from home often. Kiwi is so cuddly and people-oriented, I don't think he would do well if I worked 10 hours a day, 5 days a week.
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Kiwi's activity level is that of a toddler who only eats Pixie Sticks. He is all over the place, all of the time. When I am home, he is out of his cage until bedtime. He is fully flighted, so nothing is off limits to him. I need to make sure everything is bird proofed and nothing valuable is laying in his reach.
Kiwi's noise level, like I said, is not as bad as they say. He yells a bit in the morning when I first uncover him. He will also yell if someone comes up on my porch. But, other than that, he is basically silent. The most you will hear from him during the day are some occasional grunts and quacks.
9. What are some of your birds quirks?
Kiwi is absolutely obsessed with running water. Whenever I do dishes, he sits on the faucet and plays in the stream. When I wash my face, he is on the counter watching the water run.
He is also fascinated with fabric. I don't have a t-shirt that doesn't have holes in it from him.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
Kiwi doesn't talk
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Kiwi's favorite treat is diced papaya and pineapple.
