It is with great pleasure that I announce the
Celebirdy for the month of August 2022
@MR. Mango 's Mango
1. How did you acquire your bird?
I know it isn’t the best option out there but I bought Mango from a local birdstore a little over 2 years ago. An interesting story when it comes to that, is that I originally walked in with my heart set on getting a blue indian ringneck but all of their ringnecks had already been reserved and after some more consideration about their temperament, I decided instead to get the baby sun conure they had once he had been weaned onto dry foods. Though looking back, adoption is a great opportunity to explore when getting a new pet.
2. What is your bird's name, species, age and sex?
My bird’s name is Mango, he is a sun conure, and he is 2 years old. I don’t know for sure since we haven’t gotten him DNA tested, but I suspect that Mango is likely a male.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
Yes! Mango can “spin” where he will spin around, and he can do “tunnel” which is him basically going through my hand. He also comes to me on recall, and he sort of knows how to use a mini bowling set.
4. What are some of your bird's favorite foods?
Mango LOVES nuts, papaya, and apples! Mango also really likes nutri berries and millet. If he had his way when \it comes to dry food he would get the zupreem fruit flavored pellets instead of his harrisons
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
A couple of things, but getting stuck in a vase, that was a really funny one. He was just sort of squished in there and his feet weren’t touching the bottom so he was sort of moving them. When he learned how to open his front doors I reinforced them with more locks, but I didn’t do anything to the side spring doors because I thought it would be too difficult for him to open . . . but No . . . Lo and behold Mango is using one leg to grab onto the cage and pushing the door out with the other leg like a midair split. He then sticks his head and body out and squeezes out from in between the door. I was so surprised and his mid air split was so funny, but he had zipties added to the side doors too, so no more jailbreaks for him.
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
Having Mango gives me a lot to do so if I’m ever feeling bored I can occupy myself with the various tasks and chores involved with him. Plus it's nice in general since I never feel lonely, and he’s like a little feathery cutie pie who keeps me entertained with his antics.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
YESSS, THEY REALLY ARE THAT LOUD!! Plus they generally molt year round, it just varies when they molt more and less. Conures are a little nippy but in my experience Mango
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Mango is very active, he loves to fly around the house and forage for treats in his toys. Mango being a sun conure can be very loud when he wants to be, but he stays quiet most of the time when I'm around him. He’s mainly noisy in the morning and afternoon or when he's contact calling.
9. What are some of your bird's quirks?
Mango loves to take showers in the sink, and when hne drinks water he does little sips where he fills his beak like a cup then brings his head up and swallows it before repeating. He’s also great at escaping; he can open all of his cage doors.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
He doesn't talk but he does make and mimic sounds, like if I kiss him or make a kiss sound he mimics it with a little huff back, he also makes this very cute beeping noise in the evening when he wants to go to sleep.
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat? Probably dried papaya because he doesn’t get it often, but he also really likes all types of nuts; walnuts, pecans, almonds, cashews.
