It is with great pleasure that I announce the
Celebirdy for the month of April 2025
@Vittror 's Whiskey
1. How did you acquire your bird?
I adopted/rescued Whiskey, in 2019, from an old friend who couldn't take care of Whiskey anymore due to dire circumstances.
It was a sad situation for all involved.
My old friend truly loved Whiskey in his own way but he didn't have the knowledge how to take care of him, so when I received Whiskey he was in dire need of TLC on multiple fronts.

August 2019, 2 months-ish living with me
2. What is your bird's name, species, age and sex?
Whiskey, peach-faced lovebird (Agapornis roseicollis), is probably about 7-8 years old, male (as far as we know).
He might be a 'orange faced mutation', I'm not really knowledgeable about mutations and plumage colours at all but he looks like a mango so who knows.

3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
Not really tricks on cue except for recall at the moment.
Which is a big thing for him to have learned as he was deadly afraid of hands when he came first living with me.
Whiskey also learned foraging and enjoys doing so.
Clicker and/or target training are on the 'to do list' to start with very soon.

4. What are some of your bird's favorite foods?
Classic Nutriberries, Sweet potato, Peas, Romaine lettuce, Red bellpepper, Zucchini, Fennel seeds, Blueberries and Raspberries.
At the moment we are rediscovering favourite foods due to the situation with his beak, so food that can be chopped very small or mashed is fair game.

Eating chop & Blueberry beak
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
It's very hard to just choose one thing as he's doing funny things all the time so:
Hanging upside down like a bat when he wants attention.
Playing peek-a-boo.
Swinging really hard and fast on his swing.
Asking him to 'step up' and he doesn't do so but puts his head on my finger because he wants head scritches.

6. How has your bird enriched your life?
In every possible imaginable way.
Although the adoption of Whiskey wasn't planned and rather spontaneous I can't imagine life without him and he has enriched my life in every possibly way.
Whiskey has a few health issues going on but he is so very resillient and just wants to get head scritches, play with his toys, soak up all the attention ever and eat all the yummy foods.
Caring for Whiskey also helps me to care better for myself, however cliché that might sound.
I eat more vegetables than before
It's really amazing to me that we have been able to build such a strong bond even though life hasn't been easy for him before.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
Lovebirds are small birds with BIG personalities
But also: Read, read, research, ask questions to people who have lovebirds, rinse and repeat but please do the necessary research before adopting or shopping for a bird.
Too many times people get birds because of their 'cuteness factor' or this certain species did 'xy trick' on TikTok and it doesn't necessarily mean their bird will do so as well, leading to possible neglect of the bird in question.
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
It depends: Whiskey can both be quiet and just chill, mostly when getting head scritches but also has bursts of energy with flying, exploring, making noise and playing.
He enjoys screaming in your ear when you walk by or sit on my shoulder and the sound he makes when he does this is seriously loud, it causes ringing in that one specific ear.
Sometimes I can hear him from the other side of the house on the outside with the windows closed.
It's very hard to make good photos of Whiskey because this guy just can't sit still unless he is sleeping.

9. What are some of your bird's quirks?
Photobombing photos (something with wanting to be the center of attention something something).
He enjoys hanging upside down and just chilling out like that.
He is a bit of a velcro bird but he also wants to explore his surroundings, but preferably doing so together with a partner in crime.
This makes him a great help with doing some household chores, research and playing video games.
When I'm holding a bottle filled with a liquid and the liquid moves around, Whiskey sizes up the bottle and also starts fluidly moving his wholy body up and down.
It looks like he's doing really fluidly 'dancing moves'.
It sounds really strange but he gets really enthousiastic while doing so, so I guess it makes him happy somehow.

10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
Not a talker in the human language way but he has certain sounds he makes with which he can really good express himself.
A 'merp' is the equavalent of a 'no thank you' or annoyance and he also makes certain sounds when happy/surprised/angry/excited etc.
He's also very good at communicating when he wants head scritches.
The specific sound that suprised me the most is when I was swiping the bathroom wall tiles after taking a shower and he made a kind of 'cheering on' noise.
Like he was also participating in helping cleaning the walls.
He still makes this sound when I swipe something, like he's also participating and helping.
I always thank him afterwards for his help
Also when I just got him and we were on the car ride on our way back he initiated contact by showing off his toys and really making a bid for connection by doing so.
This suprised me initially because although I met him before he seemed more focussed on doing his own thing and didn't seem to be really interested in contact with humans.
He still likes to show off his toys nowadays.

11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Classic Nutriberries, he has a love/hate relationship with millet.
He also really likes noisy toys and chewing sola wood, palm leaf and balsa wood.
And getting head scritches
