Welcome to the neighborhood!
I am so excited to announce the Celebirdy for the month of April....
Mali
Mali
1. How did you acquire your bird?
Mali came from a wonderful breeder in Indiana.
2. What is your birds name, age and sex?
Name – Mali
Age – 11 months on April 5!
Sex - Female
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
Mali is doing very well with her flight recall. We are also working on “wings!” and her lifting her wings and “hi” where she waves.
4. What are some of your birds favorite foods?
Mali is a very picky eater, but she does love cooked beans, lentils, cooked dehydrated pineapple, pumpkin seeds and pine nuts.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
Mali does funny things all the time! She is really a character. It’s hard to just choose one thing…
My favorite thing she does is when she sees me she says “hi hi hi Mali hi hi hi” and runs over to me.Or when she’s somewhere she shouldn’t be and I go to get her. She starts running away from me all the while throwing a tantrum, complete with yelling that sounds like a toddler. When I finally get her she’ll say “What are you doing?!”
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
She makes me laugh every day! She is so full of love and it makes me happy to see her fly and act crazy. She truly is a wild one and it brings me a lot of joy and entertainment!
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
She is high maintenance and very messy!! All birds are to some degree, but Mali is incredibly so in both ways. More than I expected. She is also much more dependent on me than reading about Capes led me to believe she would be.She goes through toys quickly so I always have to have toys in large supply!
She is very curious and loves to get into things and go places she shouldn’t. She is not a bird that sits in one place and entertains herself. When she’s out I have to be on constant alert.
But Capes are loads of fun, happy and very cute!
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
She is very active, but is very good at keeping herself busy when she’s in her cage. When she’s out she is very wild! She is pretty quiet. If I put her away and she wasn’t ready to go back in her cage yet, she will let me know it! She makes some very high pitched and loud screams. But she quiets down fairly fast, in about 5 minutes. Other than that she talks, chatters, chirps, beeps, whistles, etc. all day long, but not in a volume that is bothersome.
If something alarms her she will let out an incredibly loud scream, but that is usually very limited.
She does have her “squeaky door” sound, which is quite loud and high pitched, but I’m so used to it by now I don’t really notice it. Though you can hear it out on the street!
9. What are some of your bird’s quirks?
She is an incredibly picky eater. She loves to hang upside down – I think she spends more time upside down than right side up!
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
Mali talks a lot! She started very young and I was really surprised.
The most surprising phrase she said was “good boy!”
Also, “Where are you?” I hadn’t been repeating that one to her purposefully, but I guess I said it enough!
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Pine nuts - hands down!
