We have cats in our neighborhood and my mom is sick ot them. She wants to keep them off our porch and patio furniture. Especially the cushions. There are at least 2 that hang around and on our porch often. Vinegar and lavender plants so far seem the safest. I don't know reliable they are. There's lot of essential oils are apparently good but I'm avoiding them. I've heard coffee grounds help too.

Anyone have any luck with these or something else?

*What is a good homemade cat repellent?
Mix together lemon juice, rosemary and white vinegar - three things cats detest. Put the liquid in a spray bottle so it's easy to use around the garden. Simply spray near where the cats spend time - on planters, the patio, or even inside

*Orange and lemon peels (cats dislike citrus smells), cayenne pepper, coffee grounds, pipe tobacco, lavender oil, lemon grass oil, citronella oil, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, & mustard oil.

*What repels cats naturally?
Smells that repel cats: To keep cats out of yards or gardens, plant the herb rue or sprinkle dried rue. Citrus or lemon scents (orange peels, lemon peels), garlic, ammonia, vinegar, coffee grinds, pipe tobacco, mustard, citronella, or eucalyptus all deter cats as well.

Motion activated lights and sprinklers work well too. Sometimes a cat like mask (batman type of thing) will work, garden owls or pictures of glowing eyes are all known to work for a bit but the cats learn and come back after they work out the owl figurines and masks and stuff are not a threat.

If they're feral, there may be a cat rescue in your area that will loan you a trap and then retrieve the cat for spaying/neutering once contained.

If it's not feral and you have a neighbourhood Facebook page, you could snap a photo and request that the owner contain their feline or else it will be trapped and handed over to animal control.

Here's a DIY option...

We know the owners of the cats and they are pretty set in their ways. Plus there's no bylaw here that say you can't let your cats roam free. It's frustrating. I don't minds cats but I worry about wild birds. My mom finds them being on her furniture very annoying. I have seen public sentiments changing about cats roaming free though, including in my city. I know people wanted to change the bylaw in the past. It wasn't pass because of costs of enforcing it though.

That's a fun video! Unfortunately it won't work for us.

Maybe try laying a sheet of tin foil on the seats and see if that helps. Cats apparently do not like the feel of it under their feet and apparently avoid it like the plague.
